Restored from frame to finish, the main house incorporates a unique combination of historically compatible materials with modern, eco-conscious and hypoallergenic mechanicals and finishes. Craftsmen have seamlessly integrated antique hemlock floors, antique glass and moldings, retooled original windows and copper gutters along with radiant heating, low-E windows, rigid spray foam insulation, a Crown oil fired boiler, thermostatically activated re-circulating water lines, a high-velocity HVAC system and zero VOC paints. The main floor consists of a living room, dining room, breakfast room, library, family room, mudroom with full bath, and an open central kitchen awaiting completion to the new owners’ spec. A large bluestone terrace sits off the kitchen and great room, facing southwest. Most original and new windows on the main floor are oversized or floor to ceiling, presenting wonderful views of the property. Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, with the master bedroom and bath occupying the western wing. An upstairs family room sits adjacent to the master suite and the unique “great bathroom” in the Tower – with a platform soaking tub, radiant-heated marble floor, clerestory windows and a 17 ft. ceiling. The two middle bedrooms have eastern or western light, and the south-facing front bedroom is accompanied by its own private bath with shower. Front and back stairs provide convenience and privacy. The attic has also been fully finished, with the same attention to detail and beauty. The integration of tradition and comfort extends to the refinished below-ground living areas. Radiant heat warms the newly-poured concrete floors. The original stone foundation has been exposed and incorporated into the design. The original stone cistern makes for a grand wine cellar. | ||
